Drummers; as fit as elite athletes?

According to sources from numerous news companies, a study has been conducted on the fitness of drummers; in particular "rock" drummers. The study itself was conducted by scientists from two universities in the UK, wires and breathing apparatus was fitted to an array of rock drummer in order to monitor their heart rate and oxygen intake. In addition, the most promising result was from Clem Burke. His score was of similar to a premier football player.

  2. Disagree completely. They may be 'fit' but not nearly as physically competitive as an athlete.

  3. During some shows they do put in a lot of effort, but athletes train like 4hours a day

  7. Yeah I used to hit the garage and drum for an hour straight in the summer, was in the best shape of my life.

  8. If you watch some of the metal drummers it's easy to see how fit they are. They're easily the most physically worked members of any band! Not to mention carrying the kit everywhere, they weigh a ton!

  9. not surprised, most metal drummers have super fast high parts while always jamming the double bass, so they get hella rippedd

  10. I'm a drummer myself; I play a lot of metal based music, and after a few hours playing at a standard intensity, (200BPM) for a few hours, you realise that it a good workout. I have to agree Alexis, some of the gear on my kit is very awkward due to the shapes and weight of the seperate pieces.
